Curriculum

As a Catholic school, Religious Education is central to our curriculum. Alongside Religious Education the school supports students in their Catholic religious formation. All students’ spiritual growth is enhanced through areas such as nature, art, poetry and music.

Junior Cycle

At Junior Cycle, Laurel Hill Secondary School offers the following subjects to all students. Irish, English and Mathematics each require a minimum of 240 hours of timetabled student engagement. All other subjects, including History, require a minimum of 200 hours of timetabled student engagement that includes teaching, learning and assessment activities.

Senior Cycle

In 2022, our school offered sixteen Options Subjects to choose for 90 students. A total of fourteen subjects were taken up in September 2022. At the end of the third year, subject options are introduced and students (according to option arrangements) are asked to select seven subjects for the Leaving Certificate Examination.

Transition Year

Transition Year is a very successful one-year programme in the school. A range of subjects (below) and modules are covered by students. The course aims to promote maturity, improve skills and educate through experience of adult and working life.

LCVP

LCVP is a Senior Cycle Programme of the Department of Education and Skills, designed to give a strong vocational dimension to the Leaving Certificate (established). The programme combines the virtues of academic study with a new and dynamic focus on self-directed learning, enterprise, work and the community.
