Transition Year

Transition Year is a very successful one year programme in the school. A range of subjects (below) and modules are covered by students. The course aims to promote maturity, improve skills and educate through experience of adult and working life.

During the year students sample a range of core and choice subjects. All students complete a course in Microsoft Office Suite IT training. The year also facilitates students who wish to complete the Gaisce Award and to enter the BT Young Scientist competition. Modules on the course include First Aid, Road Safety, Enterprise, Environment, Film Studies, Drama, Sign Language, Calligraphy and Website Design.

A number of trips are organised in the year including outdoor pursuits, leadership programme and team-bonding activities. There are also workshops, speakers and once-off courses like Law Days, mental health, driving theory, like-skills and African Arts day.

Work experience and community involvement form an integral part of Transition Year.
